Graduation Ceremony Marks Milestone for DEMERA and Wollo University’s IT Training Program

Kombolcha, Ethiopia – September 29, 2024 – A significant milestone was celebrated yesterday IT trainees graduated from the eight-month intensive Cloud and Cybersecurity training program, a collaboration between DEMERA, Wollo University’s Kombolcha Institute of Technology, and Microsoft. Supported by Skillsoft, Microsoft, and key stakeholders, the ceremony recognized the achievements of individuals who completed certifications in various IT disciplines, marking the success of this strategic partnership.


The event opened with a speech from Dr. Melaku Tamene, the scientific director of Wollo University's Kombolcha Institute of Technology. The president of the university, Dr. Awol Said, followed with a congratulatory address, commending the hard work of the trainees and the collaborative efforts between the university and DEMERA. Messages of congratulations were also delivered by officials from Ethiopia IT Park, Beqet Optimizer Software Company, and DEMERA.



Amare Kebede, the coordinator of App Factory Academy at Kombolcha Institute of Technology, highlighted the areas of training that the graduates had excelled in, including cybersecurity, data science, and Microsoft tools such as Microsoft Usher and Microsoft 365. He further expressed optimism for the future, noting that the conditions for employment are improving, and the academy is actively pursuing grant projects to expand its capacity and enhance the quality of its training programs.


The graduation marked the certification of individuals at the associate level in critical areas such as:


AZ-104 (Microsoft Azure Administrator): 16 trainees

AZ-204 (Developing Solutions for Microsoft Azure): 3 trainees

DP-100 (Designing and Implementing a Data Science Solution on Azure): 2 trainees

A total of 21 trainees received certifications, demonstrating the academy's dedication to developing future IT professionals equipped to address the technological challenges of today and tomorrow.


Reflecting on the journey, Tewodros Guday, Vice Chairman of DEMERA, expressed immense pride in the graduates, remarking, "When we began our collaboration with Wollo University to implement Cloud and Cybersecurity training, we did not anticipate achieving such a high level of success. However, with the invaluable support from Skillsoft, Microsoft, and the unwavering commitment of Wollo University and our dedicated trainees, we have reached this significant milestone."


He continued, "Giving back to the community through education is one of the most impactful ways to build a future equipped with modern and advanced technology. This graduation ceremony is not just the culmination of hard work but a testament to the bright future we envision for Ethiopia’s IT industry."


While celebrating this accomplishment, DEMERA and Wollo University are already planning their next training program, which will enroll nearly 100 trainees over the coming six months. With continued collaboration, the future holds even greater promise for empowering Ethiopia’s next generation of IT professionals.
