Updated: Apr 23

Excitement and anticipation fill the air as DEMERA Digital Education Methodology and Wollo University join hands with Skillsoft to kickstart their first- Microsoft IT training program. With entrance exams and interviews scheduled for December 28, 2023, the stage is set for a transformative journey into the realm of cutting-edge technology.

The entrance exam was a rigorous process, encompassing both technical and non-technical questions, coupled with interviews that delve into the interim motivation and readiness of the candidates. Held at both Wollo University and HiLCoE University in Addis Ababa, the response has been overwhelming. Mr. Debalke Embiale, a lecturer from the Computer Science Department at Kombolcha Institute of Technology, reports a staggering 630 applications. Of these, 400 are male and 200 are female candidates, showcasing the nation's enthusiasm for this training program. This speaks volumes about the demand for such training and the motivation of individuals in the country to enhance their professional careers and uplift their standards of living.

Mr. Embiale emphasizes the benefits of IT training, noting its relevance in the market and encouraging trainees to consider entrepreneurship, positioning themselves as competitive forces in international markets. For those who didn't make it to the first round, there's hope as they'll have the opportunity to participate after a six-month interval.

This six-month comprehensive training program, a collaboration between DEMERA Digital Education Methodology, Wollo University, and Skillsoft, transcends the mere acquisition of skills. It is a gateway to a myriad of new job opportunities, focusing on Microsoft Azure, M365, Cybersecurity, and Soft Skills. Upon completion, students will undergo a certificate exam, setting the stage for an internationally recognized cloud professional qualification.

Diversity lies at the core of this initiative, with a special emphasis on empowering women in technology. The commitment to this cause is evident in the priority given to women seeking to enhance their competence and gain professional expertise. Special thanks are extended to Skillsoft for generously providing licenses, allowing students to learn without the constraints of place or time. Wollo University's steadfast support, dedication to improving the needs of ICT professionals, and commitment to enhancing the university's reputation have been pivotal in bringing this program to fruition.

As we embark on this journey, we see the first phase of training as a model for future ICT programs. Designed to adapt to the evolving needs of students and job markets, it sets the bar high for training content and implementation standards.

Our collaboration with Wollo University began with a significant contribution after the Northern war, involving the donation of over 20 laptops and 150 wireless connect devices. Today, as we continue this journey, we are not just shaping the future generation but also contributing to the growth of Ethiopia's ICT ecosystem, creating job opportunities for our qualified students.

Together, let's shape futures—one training at a time!
