DEMERA Signs MoU with University of Gondar to Empower Women in Technology

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – February 11, 2025 – DEMERA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Gondar to launch a transformative IT training program aimed at empowering women in technology. The agreement marks a significant step in bridging the gender gap in the tech industry by providing specialized training and certification opportunities for women.


During the MoU signing ceremony, DEMERA Chairwoman Ms. Yetemegn Kebede and University of Gondar President Dr. Asrat Astedeweyn emphasized the importance of this collaboration, particularly in fostering opportunities for women in the IT sector. DEMERA Vice Chairman Mr. Tewodros Guday, Board Member Mr. Mokonnen Ayele, and Professor Binyam Chakilu Tilahun vice president for Research and Technology Transfer were also present at the event, highlighting the shared commitment of both institutions.



Both DEMERA and the University of Gondar acknowledged the dedication and hard work of Dr. Mastewal Birhan Atanaw (PhD) community service coordinator, who, alongside Mr. Tewodros Guday, played a pivotal role in designing and shaping this initiative. Their contributions have been instrumental in ensuring the program’s success and long-term impact.


The project, running from January 2025 to January 2026, will equip 50 women with in-demand IT skills in Microsoft technologies, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Cybersecurity. Participants will also receive training in soft skills development and exam preparation for Microsoft certifications, enhancing their career prospects in the digital economy.


DEMERA will provide essential resources, including laptops, ensuring equal access to training for all participants. The University of Gondar’s academic expertise and infrastructure will further strengthen the initiative, maximizing its impact.


This collaboration reflects DEMERA’s commitment to fostering a skilled, inclusive, and competitive workforce by empowering women with the knowledge and tools necessary to thrive in technology-driven industries. The project’s hands-on workshops, real-world case studies, and practical learning approach will prepare participants for the challenges and opportunities in the modern digital landscape.


Through this partnership, DEMERA and the University of Gondar reaffirm their dedication to gender inclusivity and innovation in technology, paving the way for a brighter, more equitable future in the IT sector.
