DEMERA partners with Addis Ababa University to Empower Students with Digital Skills

DEMERA and Addis Ababa University (AAU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance digital skills and employability among AAU students.

DEMERA has been able to deliver world-class IT training by collaborating with higher educational institutions. This dedication was further cemented last Tuesday with a vision to equip AAU students with digital skills and enhance their employability through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between DEMERA (Digital Enlightenment for Modern Ethiopian Reforms and Aspirations) and Addis Ababa University (AAU).


The agreement outlines key areas of collaboration to advance digital up-skilling, offering globally acceptable certifications and employability opportunities to create a career path for AAU graduates.


Both parties commit to adhering to the principles of collaboration, including openness, sharing of information, joint project management, and timely delivery of training as indicated in the MOU.


Speaking at the signing of the MoU, Mrs. Yetemegn Kebede, CEO of DEMERA, stated that DEMERA aims to empower young talent, especially women, with ICT skills essential for creating a digitally oriented task force critical for their and the country’s future development. Through comprehensive training in Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, and Soft Skills, the initiative bridges the gap between academia and industry, fostering innovation and creating a digitally skilled workforce.


Samuel Kifle (PhD), President of AAU, expressed that AAU, as a new autonomous university, strongly believes in forging ties and strategically working with partners like DEMERA.


The ongoing Ethiopian Digital transformation needs a huge amount of skilled IT professionals. The formalization of the MoU is a testament to the university’s new strategic direction and commitment to making a difference in the creation of cultivation digitally skilled professionals, employability, and future careers of its students through synergetic cooperation with diverse partners, the president further stated.


Following the keynote addresses by all parties, Mrs. Yetemegn Kebede, CEO of DEMERA, and the President of AAU, Dr. Samuel Kifle, signed the agreement. The MoU will become effective from the date of signing, April 30, 2024, and will remain in force for an initial period of three years, with a possibility of renewal upon mutual consent of the parties. The signing ceremony was witnessed by the AAU leadership team and DEMERA representatives at the President’s Office.
